Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship could work for you whatever career you're in, or whatever stage of life you're at! In fact there are many apprenticeships for all kinds of people with each one giving you real qualifications, real skills and a real wage.

ApprenticeshipsNI

  • would you like to gain qualifications that recognise your skills?
  • do you find the idea of getting paid while you learn and train an attractive proposition?
  • have you found an employer who will offer you paid employment as an apprentice?

If your answer is yes, check out ApprenticeshipsNI which offers a range of training opportunities and the chance to gain nationally recognised qualifications that will give you the skills you need for your chosen career.

For example you may wish to consider:

  • computer science
  • construction
  • motor vehicle
  • electrical or mechanical engineering
  • catering.

These are just a few examples of many opportunities, but have you ever thought about when a joiner is not a joiner? Well could it be when a joiner is perhaps, a carpenter or a cabinet maker?

Often we view apprenticeships as only being in what are often thought of as traditional roles like an electrician, plumber or joiner. In reality there are over a hundred apprenticeship frameworks that provide opportunities in a diverse range of occupations.

As an apprentice you will be with an employer in paid employment from day one. How much you are paid will be agreed with your employer before you start your apprenticeship.

Why not have a look:

How much will it cost?

ApprenticeshipsNI will ensure that the full cost of your training is met. Once you complete your training you will have formal qualifications that are recognised by employers in the UK and overseas.

How are apprenticeships delivered?

ApprenticeshipsNI are delivered jointly by employers and training suppliers to ensure that you:

  • get first rate training
  • build knowledge and skills
  • gain qualifications
  • earn a wage from day one.

Specialist orgaisations can provide additional support for people with disabilities.

All-age apprenticeships are now available on a full-framework basis to both existing and newly recruited employees.

Note

On 26 May 2009, the Department for Employment and Learning announced measures to assist those apprentices within the manufacturing industry who have been placed on short time working. The scheme entitled 'Skillsafe' has been created to help apprentices affected by the economic downturn and to ensure that any 'down time' they may have is used to their advantage. For further information check out the Skillsafe page in NIDirect.
