Am I eligible
If you are aged between 60 and 64 and you are a permanent resident of Northern Ireland, then you are eligible for a 60+ SmartPass. If you are 65 or over, and live permanently in Northern Ireland, you are eligible for a Senior SmartPass.

The following is a summary of the terms and conditions. To read the full version please refer to the:
- a working SmartPass must be presented prior to every journey to obtain free fares
- the 60+ SmartPass is only valid on journeys taken within Northern Ireland
- the 60+ SmartPass is not transferable
- when you use your 60+ SmartPass you must comply with the operator’s conditions of carriage
- the SmartPass remains the property of DRD
- after receiving your ticket you must check that the journeys details are correct
- if you lose or damage your SmartPass, you are liable to pay for its replacement
- your 60+ SmartPass will expire when you reach 65, and you are responsible for applying for a Senior SmartPass
How to use this service
Application forms can be obtained in the following ways:
- in person from any manned Translink bus or rail station
- by telephoning 0845 600 0049 (Deaf and hard-of- hearing applicants can use the textohone number 028 9038 7505)
- by emailing callcentre@translink.co.uk applicants must provide their name and full address, including post code

Using your 60+ SmartPass
With a 60+ SmartPass you can travel free on nearly all scheduled bus and rail services within Northern Ireland provided by the following operators:
- Metro
- Ulsterbus
- Northern Ireland Railways
- Airporter
- B&C Coaches
- Cavehill Coaches
- Logan’s Executive Travel
- Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway Company
- McAnulty’s Coach Hire
Please note that the 60+ SmartPass does not entitle you to free travel on cross-border journeys, or on journeys taken within the Republic of Ireland.
Note to 60+ SmartPass Holders who will turn 65 shortly
Your 60+ SmartPass is programmed to expire at the end of the calendar month in which you become 65. If you have applied for a Senior SmartPass, it will not be sent to you until near the end of the month in which you become 65. As free all-Ireland and cross-border travel is only available with a Senior SmartPass, it may be that you have to wait up to three weeks following your 65th birthday before you can claim this benefit.
