Compensation claims

The Department for Regional Development (DRD) Central Claims Unit deals with compensation claims made against Roads Service. If you are involved in an accident and believe that the Roads Service is responsible you can download and complete the relevant type of claim form and submit it to Central Claims Unit, which will investigate your claim and determine whether you are entitled to receive compensation.

Claims forms

There are three different types of claim forms, these relate to personal injury, property damage, for example, damage to your house, lands or possessions and a vehicle damage form specifically for claims for damage to motor vehicles.

Where to send completed forms

Please complete the downloaded claim form, which must be signed for legal reasons, and return it to Central Claims Unit. You will see two addresses on the claims forms. The main Central Claims Unit office is in Belfast.

The North West office is based in Orchard House in Londonderry. If your claim arises in the Londonderry, Limavady, Coleraine, Portrush or Portstewart / in County Londonderry, Enniskillen / in County Fermanagh, or Omagh ,Dungannon , Strabane / in County Tyrone , please send your completed claim form to the Orchard House office.

If you are in any doubt about which office to which you should return your completed claim form you can either ring Central Claims Unit for assistance or, if you prefer, simply send your completed claim form to the main Belfast office.

Sewerage and water supply related claims

Please note that since 1 April 2007 sewerage and water supply responsibilities, formerly undertaken by Water Service, are now the responsibility of Northern Ireland Water Limited. NI Water is no longer part of DRD. For this reason Central Claims Unit does not deal with claims involving NI Water, it has its own claims handling procedures. If your claim arises as a result of flooding or any other actions or operations taken by or on behalf of NI Water, you should contact Waterline and NI Water will arrange to send out its claim form to you.
